Collective Advocacy for Rights and Education (C.A.R.E.) for Migrant Workers

Supporting migrant workers in the South Fraser region and beyond

Through DIVERSEcity’s C.A.R.E. for Migrant Workers program, we collaborate with local community partner organizations in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Delta, Langley, Richmond, Surrey, White Rock and other regions of BC to support, empower and integrate migrant workers into the community while ensuring they have access to crucial services.

How we help migrant workers

  • Provide one-on-one case management (i.e., applying for government and health benefits, and job search and training support)
  • Offer mental health support and counselling in English and Spanish
  • Inform them about their rights and how to exercise them
  • Provide emergency supports due to employer mistreatment or job loss
  • Welcome them through social, cultural and recreational activities
  • Help them improve their English language skills

Eligibility

  • Migrant workers in BC on a closed work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or the International Mobility Program

Planting Hope video campaign

Behind the sweet blueberries in your smoothie, the crisp corn on your summer grill and the apples in your lunchbox are the hands of migrant workers — individuals who leave behind their families and communities to work in BC’s fields. Migrant workers are essential in putting local food on our tables. They are the backbone of BC’s food production.

Through the C.A.R.E. program’s Planting Hope campaign, we invite you to recognize the people who not only plant seeds in our soils, but also plant seeds of hope for their families.
