Kiran Kooner, MPP, is a senior executive leader with over 15 years of experience in public policy, labour relations and community development. As the Executive Director of one of BC’s largest union organizations, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) BC Division, she leads the organization, overseeing daily operations, financial stewardship and works extensively with the Executive Board to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and policy governance. She has led major organizational change initiatives, developed standard operating procedures to improve efficiency, and launched new systems that strengthen accountability and service delivery.
Her ability to build partnerships with government agencies, community organizations and service providers has been instrumental in advancing advocacy and program outcomes across various sectors. She has also held senior roles at the City of Surrey and currently serves on the board of Ishtar Women’s Resource Society.
She holds a master’s in public policy from Simon Fraser University. She is working to complete her governance certificate with the Governance Professionals of Canada, as well as the Certified Association Executives (CAE) Program. Kiran immigrated to Canada in 1990 and has lived in Surrey for over three decades. Her combined lived experience and professional background reflect a longstanding commitment to inclusive, community-centred work that aligns closely with DIVERSEcity’s mission.
