Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Project Job Fair connects job seekers with new opportunities

Through networking, conversation and direct connections with industry representatives, attendees explored career pathways, built valuable connections and learned about opportunities linked to one of the region’s largest infrastructure projects.

DIVERSEcity recently welcomed job seekers to the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Project Job Fair, creating opportunities for participants to learn about careers connected to one of the region’s largest infrastructure projects.

Approximately 75 clients attended the event, including job-ready participants from DIVERSEcity’s Safe Haven, Settlement, BC Newcomer Services Program (BCNSP) and RISE programs. Many attendees had previously received employment support through DIVERSEcity, including resume development, training opportunities and employment counselling.

The Job Fair featured two representatives from LiUNA Local 1611, including an Executive Board member responsible for hiring across multiple projects in British Columbia and the Yukon, including recent recruitment efforts for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Project.

Throughout the day, attendees met with industry representatives, explored career pathways, asked questions and learned more about opportunities in the construction sector. The event highlighted the value of bringing employers and job seekers together to build relationships, share information and explore pathways to employment.

The Job Fair also produced promising early results! Following the event, LiUNA representatives identified approximately 10 to 12 candidates as strong potential hires. While the hiring process is still underway, the early feedback reflects the impact that employment-focused events can have in helping job seekers access new opportunities.

DIVERSEcity extends its thanks to LiUNA Local 1611 for partnering with us and sharing their expertise with attendees. We are also grateful to everyone who participated, bringing enthusiasm, curiosity and a readiness to work.

The strong turnout demonstrated the demand for employment-focused events and the importance of creating spaces where community members can connect directly with industry professionals.

We look forward to hosting similar events in the future and continuing to support community members on their employment journeys.
