Moving ahead with EV maintenance and repair training at DIVERSEcity

This Earth Day, train with EVolve Skills and join the growing EV repair and maintenance workforce!

With high fuel prices and ongoing climate concerns, moving toward an electric vehicle (EV) is an environmentally sound idea this Earth Day. According to non-profit Plug ’N Drive, the average Canadian driver can reduce their car’s greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 90 per cent, and save as much as $3,000 per year on fuel alone!

With more than 700,000 fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles on the road in Canada today — and demand rising — it’s no wonder that the need for skilled workers in the EV automative sector is booming.

EVolve Skills at DIVERSEcity prepares workers in the EV sector

At DIVERSEcity, we are working with Ontario-based Achēv to deliver the EVolve Skills program in BC with our training partner Vancouver Community College — empowering tomorrow’s automotive workforce today!

With funding from the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program, this program will help you gain the skills you need to work in EV repair and maintenance.

We are also working with Plug ’N Drive to help raise awareness of this opportunity, and with Kwantlen Polytechnic University to better connect with communities across British Columbia.

“The EVolve Skills program is meeting an important need in building a stronger electric automative sector in Canada,” says Mike Lally, Manager, Employment at DIVERSEcity. “With the federal government’s new Electric Vehicle Affordability Program encouraging more Canadians to buy electric in 2026, it’s important we have the skilled workers in place to service and repair these cars. That’s what this program aims to do, and we, at DIVERSEcity, are thrilled to be a program partner in upskilling the automative workforce in Canada.”

Whether you’re looking to enter the sector or expand your existing automotive skills, EVolveSkills offers either a two-week customized EV micro-credential training program or a one-week EV career exploration and employment skills training.

What participants say about EVolve

After running several cohorts of both the two-week and one-week programs, participants have been praising the programs and the impact on their automative career potential.

One participant said this about the program: “Everyone involved in this course has been amazing — very professional, helpful and supportive. I couldn’t have asked for more. I am truly glad I took this course and feel blessed that such dedicated people are working hard to make it happen and empower individuals.”

Another emphasized the importance of understanding EVs in today’s automotive industry. “This EV course is absolutely essential to your career, as electrification of the automotive industry has already begun. As automotive technicians, we have to be at the forefront of new technologies as they are adopted by the masses. This EV course sets the foundation of knowledge required to work on EV vehicles.”
