It’s National Volunteer Week in the International Volunteer Year 2026, and some of DIVERSEcity’s most dedicated volunteers can be found on our volunteer Board of Directors.
Board Vice Chair Jason Wong is one of DIVERSEcity’s longest running board directors, supporting DIVERSEcity’s mission and direction since 2020. As an entrepreneur and community builder, Jason uses his experience as the owner of Beta Collective co-working space and YVR Prep, to support DIVERSEcity’s impact in the community.
Giving back and making his community stronger may be something Jason learned from his father, who ran a martial arts studio in Surrey after working his regular day job. Jason remembers his father opening the studio up to families even if they could not pay. “Every year, we would also do a martial arts presentation at DIVERSEcity’s annual Lunar New Year celebration,” he remembers. Years later, it was that fond memory that inspired him to volunteer with DIVERSEcity — just offering up his business knowledge, rather than martial arts know-how.
His volunteerism doesn’t stop at DIVERSEcity. Leveraging his entrepreneurial expertise, he created a group for emerging entrepreneurs, Burnaby Startups & Entrepreneurs Meetup Group, a platform for people starting their small business journey to build connections, network and learn.
Whether through his businesses or his volunteerism, Jason says, “My goal is to make space (literally), lower barriers, build confidence and uplift others in ways that allow them to create economic opportunity for themselves.”
He is also a volunteer board member of Burnaby Board of Trade and Tourism Burnaby.
For him, he says he gets as much as he gives out of his 50-80 hours per month in service to his community. “I find something intrinsically rewarding about setting others up for success and being part of something bigger than himself.”
Thank you to Jason for your dedication to the community and DIVERSEcity!
